COMAR T300B CLASS B SOTDMA AIS TRANSPONDER
The T300B is a compact and rugged SOTDMA AIS Transponder designed for the demands of the commercial boat, fishing boat and leisure markets. It meets the Class B (SOTDMA) standard, allowing vessels that are not required to fit Class A units to voluntarily fit an AIS Transponder.
When connected to an external VHF antenna and a GPS antenna (not supplied), the T300B will transmit its own vessel position and data and also receive information from other AIS vessels, shore stations and navigational aids within VHF range.
The unit is initially programmed by the user with the supplied software over a USB interface. The T300B is compatible with a range of computer based navigation programs and chart plotters, that can accept AIS data sentences over a NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000 connection.
FEATURES
- SOTDMA Transmission Standard
- NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000 compatible

CLASS B SOTDMA AIS TRANSPONDER
A Class B SOTDMA AIS Transponder is an advanced AIS device for non-mandated vessels (recreational/small commercial) that uses SOTDMA (Self-Organizing Time Division Multiple Access) for reliable transmissions, offering higher power (5W vs. 2W standard Class B), faster update rates (up to every 5 seconds), and guaranteed time slots, ensuring better visibility and collision avoidance, especially in busy waterways, by reserving transmission time like commercial Class A units.
KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS:
- SOTDMA Technology: Negotiates transmission slots with other AIS vessels, preventing data loss and delays common in high-traffic areas.
- Higher Power Output: 5 Watts, 2.5 times more powerful than standard Class B, improving detection range and reliability for satellite tracking.
- Faster Updates: Updates positions more frequently (e.g., every 5 seconds at higher speeds), increasing situational awareness.
- Enhanced Visibility: Ensures your vessel’s position, speed, and course are seen by others, including Class A vessels.
- Connectivity: Typically includes NMEA 2000, NMEA 0183, USB, and Wi-Fi for connecting to chartplotters and PCs.
- Ideal Users: Ocean sailors, fast powerboats, and smaller commercial vessels needing top-tier performance.
- Standard Class B (CSTDMA): Uses a simpler “listen-before-talk” (Carrier-Sense) method, transmits every 30 seconds at 2W, and has lower priority, potentially missing slots.
- Class B SOTDMA: Reserves time slots, transmits faster and more reliably at 5W, providing superior performance for demanding users.
